What is breast reconstruction?

What is breast reconstruction?
It is a procedure that restores the volume and shape of the breast after a total or partial mastectomy. It can be performed immediately (at the same time as the removal) or at a later date.
📈 Some key figures (source: National Cancer Institute):
Breast cancer remains a major public health issue:
🔹61,214 new cases in France in 2023
🔹 12,757 deaths in 2022
🔹 913,089 women are living with a history of breast cancer (2017 prevalence)
🔹 Median age at diagnosis: 64
And yet, post-mastectomy breast reconstruction is still rarely offered or accessible.
🔍 Why is this step essential?
After a mastectomy, some women wish to reconstruct their figure. It is not just a question of aesthetics, but of regaining their identity and psychological well-being.
And yet, less than 1 in 3 women in France have access to it…
Current solutions (silicone implants or flaps) are sometimes cumbersome or unsuitable.
At LATTICE MEDICAL, we are developing MATTISSE, a 3D-printed breast prosthesis that aims to enable the body to regenerate its breast tissue.
Our goal:
🎯 To offer a simplified, less invasive and sustainable alternative.
🎯 To promote access to reconstruction for all women who express the need.
